  85. Installing a new Telemate
  86. =========================
  87.  
  88. The following steps show how to install Telemate on the C drive of your
  89. hard disk drive. You can use any other drive by substituting the letter
  90. of your drive in place of C in the example below.
  91.  
  92.  1) Make a subdirectory for the Telemate files by typing MD \TM.
  93.  2) Change to the Telemate directory by typing CD \TM.
  94.  3) Copy all Telemate files to C:\TM.
  95.  4) Start the installation program TMINST.EXE and set up your Telemate.

  97. Now you are ready to run Telemate TM.EXE.

  101. Upgrading from v3.xx
  102. ====================

  104. Upgrading from v3.xx is sample, you can replace the following files
  105. with the new ones

  114. Compiled files .TMS from v3.01 or higher is binary compatible with
  115. version 4.00. There is no need to re-compile them.

  128. Introducing GIFLink
  129. ===================
  130.  
  131. In this release, we introduce GIFLink - a X/Y/Zmodem/QuickB protocol
  132. driver that displays transmitting GIF images in stunning SuperVGA
  133. graphics! It is the first protocol driver that uses full screen computer
  134. graphics in SuperVGA mode.
  135.  
  136. GIFLink is distributed with Telemate as the 4th package and it is also
  137. available as a stand-alone Shareware. Telemate registered users are
  138. entitled to a special discount for GIFLink registration.
  139.  
  140. . When transfering GIF files, GIFLink shows the GIF images in the
  141.   optimal size so that the full image always fits in the screen. It
  142.   also displays a number of useful information such as COM port, baud
  143.   rate, estimated transfer time, average cps, image resolutions, etc.
  144.  
  145. . GIFLink supports most of the popular file transfer protocols such as
  146.   Zmodem, Batch Ymodem, Ymodem-G, Ymodem, Xmodem and CompuServe QuickB.
  147.   If the files being transmitted are not GIF images, GIFLink will work
  148.   just like a normal protocol driver. So GIFLink will transmit any
  149.   files, not just GIF images.

  151. . Not only can GIFLink shows the GIF images while you are transmitting
  152.   them, it has a special VIEW mode so that you can look at the received
  153.   GIF images in a slideshow format or preview the images you are going
  154.   to sent.

  158. . Almost all SuperVGA adapters and VESA compatible adapters are
  159.   supported in 256 color mode or 64 grey-scale level up to 1024x768.
  160.   Standard VGA is also allowed in 16 grey-scale level.

  162. . GIFLink supports connection through its own COM interrupt routine,
  163.   FOSSIL driver or BIOS INT 14H, 16550 FIFO, non-standard COM port
  164.   address and IRQ, slow handshake and many more options.

  167.   and writes TM.USE. Most DSZ environment variables are accepted as
  168.   well.

  171. What's new in Telemate
  172. ======================
  173.  
  174. . Quick dial: Pressing [Ins] in the dial window replaces the dial
  175.   list with the entry under the dial bar and starts dialing.
  176.  
  177. . When it is dialing, the [Ins] key inserts the entry under the dial
  178.   bar to the end of the dial list. This allows you to easily add
  179.   entries to the dial list without stopping the dialing process.
  180.  
  181. . Quick search in the Dial window no longer needs the [Ctrl] key.
  182.   For example, pressing the [D] key now jumps to the next entry that
  183.   start with a 'D'.

  185. . The phone entry dialog allows an external protocol to be defined
  186.   as the default protocol.

  188. . VT102 now have an improved transparent print routine.

  190. . VT102 supports <esc>[<ascii code>g, a non-standard code that

  254. . The command line switch /W (Windows Compatibility option) is added to
  255.   provide high speed transmission under Windows. By default, Telemate
  256.   does not use the transmit interrupt when running under Windows
  257.   because the transmit interrupt may lock up some machines completely.
  258.   With this switch, both transmit and receive interrupts are used. It
  259.   can be added to the TELEMATE.PIF if Telemate can run with it under
  260.   Windows.
  261. . Smart Quoting: [Alt Q] now reformats a normal paragraph and truncates
  262.   an already quoted message.
  263. . A percentage indicator is added to the transfer window.
  264. . The dial list is rearranged after a successful connection or aborted
  265.   by the user, so that the next-to-be-dialed entry is placed at the
  266.   beginning of the dial list.
  267. . A Clear screen option is added to the phone directory so that you can
